iAmp™ Inline Amplifier Simplifies Web Tension Measurement
Tension equipment manufacturer Dover Flexo Electronics (DFE) has just released a new, compact signal amplifier that takes the trouble out of interfacing the 0-to-500 mV tension signal from sensors mounted in a machine's web path to a drive, PLC or other control device which operates on a 0-to-10 VDC input.
The new iAmp™ Inline 0-10VDC Amplifier works with any of DFE's tension transducers as either a di-rectly-connected transducer plug-on or as a module that snaps on the cable between the transducer and the receiving device. The 2 by 2 1/4 inch iAmp™ is a simple alternative to mounting a larger, less flexi-ble electronics device—usually a 4 by 5 inch transducer-interface circuit card or complete indication package—on a press or machine frame for tension monitoring. Because it is easily hidden, the iAmp™ makes an ideal tension amplifier for OEMs and system integrators.
The iAmp™ is powered by 24VDC, supplies a 0-to-5 V excitation signal to the transducers, and comes with an additional 0-1 mA tension meter output. The amplifier also provides easy-to-adjust zero and calibration pots.
"By offering an amplifier with output characteristics that are compatible with customers' existing electri-cal specifications, we enable the customer not to have to purchase and install an extra electronics compo-nent," comments Tony Ciriello, DFE's General Manager. "For many customers, the convenience of not having to do extra wiring, drilling and mounting of a circuit card is a real benefit."
The devices shown in the attached photo are 'inline' iAmps that fit onto DFE's standard transducer cables using standard industrial connectors. The unit on the left shows an optional DIN-rail clip.
